Geophysics Computing Lab Attends Spring Conference of the Korean Society of Earth and Exploration Geophysicists
[Seoul=GeoVis] The Computational Geophysics Lab of Jeonbuk National University (JBCGL) announced that it attended the 2019 Spring Conference of the Korean Society of Earth and Exploration Geophysicists held at Seoul National University from April 25th to 26th, and presented its latest research findings.
The lab presented three oral presentations showcasing innovative achievements in seabed seismic exploration and anisotropic media research.
The first presentation was given by researcher Sea-Eun Park on "Imaging Research of North Sea Seabed Seismic Survey Data Using Reverse Time Migration". This research is about an advanced technique for high-resolution imaging of complex subsurface structures in the North Sea oil field region, with joint participation from Professors Hwang Jong-ha, Ju-Won Oh, Min Dong-ju, and Song Young-soo.
Researcher Shin Young-jae presented on "Analysis of Partial Differential Wavefield Radiation Patterns of Pseudo-Acoustic Wave Equations for Transverse Isotropic Media". This research, which theoretically analyzed wave propagation characteristics in anisotropic media, was conducted in collaboration with Professors Ju-Won Oh and Min Dong-ju.
Finally, researcher Lee Wonseok presented on "Frequency-Domain Anisotropic Acoustic Full-Waveform Inversion Using Staggered-Grid Finite Difference Method: Application to North Sea Seabed Seismic Survey Data". This research was conducted with Professors Shin Young-jae, Hwang Jong-ha, Ju-Won Oh, and Min Dong-ju, and attracted attention as practical research applying advanced inversion techniques to actual North Sea data.
In particular, all the research presented at this conference focused on highly challenging technical fields such as seabed seismic exploration and anisotropic media, demonstrating the lab's expertise and technical depth. Seabed seismic exploration is one of the most precise techniques in marine oil and gas exploration, and it is a technically demanding field internationally.
The Korean Society of Earth and Exploration Geophysicists Spring Conference is a representative academic event in the domestic geophysical exploration field, serving as an important platform for sharing the latest research trends and technological developments. Every year, experts from academia, industry, and research institutions gather to exchange research achievements and explore cooperation methods.
Professor Ju-Won Oh stated, "Through this conference, we were able to reconfirm that our lab's seabed seismic exploration technology is at the highest level in Korea." He added, "We will continue to contribute to the development of domestic geophysical exploration technology through practical and innovative research."
