Researchers Kim Seokhan and Roh Heechan Participate in MIT Global Competency Enhancement Program

[Boston=GeoVis] Kim Seokhan and Roh Heechan, master's student researchers from the Geophysics Computing Lab at Jeonbuk National University, announced their participation in the MIT Global Competency Enhancement Program with support from the Jeonbuk National University LINC3.0 Project Group.

This program was held for two weeks, from July 30th to August 13th, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) campus. The two researchers served as escorts for 10 undergraduate students from Jeonbuk National University, supporting the overall program while actively participating in academic exchanges with MIT researchers.

The MIT Global Competency Enhancement Program aims to strengthen students' international sense and research capabilities in a world-class educational environment. Participants visit MIT's advanced research facilities, attend lectures by world-renowned researchers, and have networking opportunities with students of various nationalities.

In particular, this program provided intensive education in core areas of the 4th Industrial Revolution, such as AI and Big Data, Energy Technology, and Biotechnology. Kim Seokhan and Roh Heechan, based on their geophysics background, showed particular interest in lectures on energy technology.

As escorts, the two researchers were responsible for the safety management and learning support of the undergraduate students, while also identifying the latest research trends in seismic exploration and CCS monitoring through individual meetings with MIT researchers. In particular, they had time to explore future collaborative research possibilities with researchers from MIT's Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

This support from the LINC3.0 Project Group was promoted with the aim of strengthening the global leadership capabilities of graduate students and operating overseas training programs for undergraduate students in a substantial manner. The participation of master's student researchers as escorts enabled the program to be operated with both expertise and responsibility.

An official from the Jeonbuk National University LINC3.0 Project Group stated, "Overseas training programs with graduate students as escorts are a win-win model that benefits both sides." They added, "We will continue to expand this type of global competency enhancement program in the future."

Kim Seokhan stated, "It was very meaningful to be able to lead undergraduate students and learn together at MIT, a world-class university." He added, "Through this experience, I was able to develop a global mindset and leadership, and it greatly stimulated my future research."
