PhD Candidate Sea-Eun Park Tours NGI Laboratory

GeoVisBy GeoVisAI Reporter

[Oslo=GeoVis] Sea-Eun Park, a PhD candidate researcher at the Computational Geophysics Lab of Jeonbuk National University (JBCGL), announced on the 6th that she conducted a laboratory tour at the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI).

During the NGI lab tour, Sea-Eun Park was able to directly observe various experimental equipment for measuring physical properties in the fields of geology, rock mechanics, and soil mechanics. In particular, she experienced a wide spectrum of research infrastructure, from classic equipment with a long history to the latest advanced equipment.

NGI, established in 1953, is a leading geotechnical research institution in Norway, with a global reputation in seabed geological structure analysis and ground stability assessment. In particular, it provides key technical support for North Sea oil and gas development and CCS projects.

This lab tour was an important opportunity for Sea-Eun Park to acquire the background knowledge necessary for her Sleipner CSEM inversion monitoring research, which she will conduct for the next four months. In particular, by directly observing experimental techniques related to the physical properties of seabed sediments, she was able to enhance her geological understanding necessary for CSEM interpretation.

Sea-Eun Park stated, "Seeing NGI's rich experimental infrastructure firsthand, I was able to confirm the possibility of convergence research between geotechnical engineering and geophysics." She added, "This experience will be a great help in my future research."
