Master's Student Yun-Ha Jung Presents Utah FORGE Full-Waveform Inversion Research at AGU Conference

[San Francisco=GeoVis] Yun-Ha Jung, a master's student researcher at the Computational Geophysics Lab of Jeonbuk National University (JBCGL), announced on the 14th that she presented her full-waveform inversion research findings for the Utah FORGE geothermal power complex at the 2023 AGU Conference.

On December 12th, Yun-Ha Jung gave a poster presentation on 'Applicability of Seismic Full-Waveform Inversion for Surface and Vertical Seismic Profile Data Acquired from Utah FORGE EGS Site'.

This research analyzed the applicability of full-waveform inversion techniques to surface seismic data and VSP data acquired from the Utah FORGE EGS (Enhanced Geothermal System) demonstration site in Utah, USA. In particular, it demonstrated the excellence of full-waveform inversion in imaging subsurface structures for geothermal development.

AGU (American Geophysical Union) is the world's largest academic organization in earth and space sciences, and it is a prestigious international conference attended by researchers from around the world every year.

More than 25,000 researchers attended this conference, held in San Francisco, USA, from December 11th to 15th, sharing the latest research achievements in earth science.

Yun-Ha Jung's presentation was evaluated as proposing practical application methods for geophysical monitoring technology for geothermal energy development. Yun-Ha Jung, who is currently conducting long-term dispatch research at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) in the United States, attended the conference directly on-site.

Yun-Ha Jung stated, "It was very meaningful to be able to present my research findings at a world-class earth science conference." She added, "International networking has greatly helped in the future development of my research."
