PhD Candidate Sea-Eun Park Begins Long-Term Dispatch to NGI, Norway

[Oslo=GeoVis] Sea-Eun Park, a PhD candidate researcher at the Computational Geophysics Lab of Jeonbuk National University (JBCGL), announced on the 6th that she has begun a long-term dispatch to the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI).

Sea-Eun Park will conduct research activities at NGI for four months as part of the Energy Human Resources Development Project - Energy New Industry Global project of the Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning. Prior to this, she had completed three months of joint research with Professor Alexey Stovas of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

Upon arrival at NGI, Sea-Eun Park was assigned personal research space and equipment, and discussed the detailed plan for Sleipner CSEM inversion monitoring research during a kickoff meeting with Dr. Joonsang Park of NGI.

NGI is a research institution with world-class technological capabilities in seabed geological structure analysis and geophysical monitoring. In particular, its Offshore Energy department is responsible for key monitoring technologies for the Sleipner CCS project in the Norwegian North Sea, and this dispatch is expected to contribute significantly to the self-reliance of domestic CCS monitoring technology.

Dr. Joonsang Park is a world-renowned authority in the field of geophysical monitoring, and in particular, he leads research on seabed reservoir monitoring using CSEM (Controlled Source Electromagnetic) techniques.

Professor Ju-Won Oh stated, "I am very much looking forward to Sea-Eun Park acquiring CCS monitoring technology in a world-class research environment." He added, "This experience will be an important asset for the development of carbon storage technology in Korea."
