๐ก Radioactivity & Nuclear Waste Geological Disposal
Nuclear Waste Disposal Project teaches students to design and evaluate deep geological repositories for the safe disposal of high-level radioactive waste. Students learn the principles of multi-barrier safety systems, run 10,000-year-scale performance-assessment simulations built on host-rock characterization data and engineered-barrier models, and learn to validate long-term predictions against natural-analogue case studies. Given the extraordinarily long time horizons involved, graduates emerge with both rigorous quantitative reasoning about uncertainty and the regulatory competency this field demands.
