Structural Geology & Tectonics Department

The Structural Geology & Tectonics Department teaches students to elucidate crustal-deformation mechanisms and plate-tectonic processes by combining structural-analysis data with plate-kinematics modeling, including seafloor spreading, through simulation. Students carry out real structural-data analysis alongside plate-tectonic simulation; by graduation, they have honed the judgment to weave structural-geological observation together with kinematic modeling into a unified interpretation of crustal deformation.
